Tom Carlton

Our dear friend Thomas I. Carlton, Jr. passed away on April 22, 2023. Tom was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in 1965 and practiced law with Cornelius and Collins for over 50 years, until his retirement in 2022. Tom was recognized among the finest of trial lawyers in the State of Tennessee, was a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and served on the Board of Directors of the Nashville Bar Association. Tom had a way of charming jurors, making friends with adversaries, and was a mentor to countless young lawyers. He was a great storyteller, loved to laugh, and never missed his daily crossword puzzle.

Tom served as a Moot Court Instructor at the Nashville School of Law for 38 years. He was a proud graduate and lifelong supporter of NSL. NSL is a private 501(c)(3) non-profit law school founded in 1911 that offers a high-quality legal education and affordable tuition. The Thomas I Carlton, Jr. Memorial Scholarship has been established and will name its first recipient this spring.
